That's some pretty great news, hopefully it's not some dastardly ploy you'd see in a movie.

With this hopefully NK stops with their crazy bulls*** and mellows out, the world is enough of a mess already.
I wonder if this is what they wanted or if they're country is just in such a bad state that they're giving it up? They obviously couldn't keep it going forever. Hopefully their citizens can now move on to having actual lives.

Something positive for once.

If this is true, the US is bound to lift most if not all sanctions as a response. This is a huge step towards peace. Amazing that they decided to work with the world rather than Nuke the hell out of it.

Does this mean they will get rid of the de-militarised zone and allow people to cross the border?

If anything he'd be the one I expect to f*** it up by saying some hamfisted s*** that provokes NK because regardless of whether or not North and South will be peaceful again NK still hates America and Lord Cheeto himself is hardly an inspiring or mature presence.

Actually, isn't it weird how NK is effectively to the outside world an unexplored country?
How cool would it be to go look at it if they were to let people in without all the crazy restrictions, as backwards as the place is surely they have some cool landmarks and whatnot, it would probably be a long time before they open up like that though.

It hasn't even happened yet and there are talks of letting people cross from South to North already.

Maybe now they’ll stop killing each other and forcing people to live like slaves in N. Korea. That would be pretty cool.

Interested to see if NK opens its borders more, what the country is really like, since most of what's written is, let's be honest, just speculation and circle-jerking, as is often the case about foreign countries.

I'm also interested to know what brought this on now and whether it's something that had been planned for a while. It could be down to China's influence, could be down to some sort of economic woes within NK, could be something that Kim Jong Un or close members of his government or family (e.g his sister) had wanted to do for a while (even a dictator has pressures to uphold an image of strength, so can't suddenly start making compromises without careful planning), could be something else entirely.

I reckon a key NK official died and now everyone's able to sue for peace without him interfering.

Absolutely not, there's no way any one person is able to do that. And I wouldn't say the United States taking some new policy did this either, as to be quite frank, if Trump lets this through he is objectively hurting American interests (not Korean interests, just America, and to make it clear I do prefer legitimate peace over the status quo).

To be frank I had assumed it'd never happen until China was no longer relevant or was more powerful than the USA, as well... Let's be frank, China is the largest threat to the United States power there is, and more so they seem to want to move power away from the seas (which we more or less control on our own) to the continents instead (which we don't control nearly as much) and would allow China to better control their trade in the event that the seas become unavailable to them, like during an America blockade. We want to keep a presence in the east in case China ever becomes a threat that we need to deal with through some kind of military action (and we'd almost certainly win the war in the end as things stand right now). However, outright saying this is... Not good as an idea at the moment, raising tensions like that for no reason. So instead we use North Korea as a target to justify military presence in an area that happens to be so close to China. Unless this is just Trump's incompetence proving to be useful for once, I can't imagine why the USA government would allow this sort of thing to take place. In any case, I won't put it past us to sabotage negotiations in this and try to keep it going on longer.

Now as for why North Korea is going forward with this... I think it has less to do with anything having to do with either the South, the North, or the USA's administrations, and more to do with the nuclear weaponry they have, which if pressed, and assuming everything goes well, can basically do real and lasting damage to the United States, possibly knocking out the electric grid and severely damaging the country because of that (Puerto Rico's situation on a much grander scale, and far less ability for us to help). This helps ensure that they have some sovereignty based on them being able to actually afford some more freedom in diplomatic action, since now they can take a more assertive, less hermit-like, less internally focused situation where they have to basically cultivate their own self-reliance without relying so much on China. If I had to guess, this new freedom allows them to actually make approaches to the South without being under the United States thumb.

That's a guess of mine at any rate, I can't be very sure on this.

Does anyone else find it f***ing adorable seeing Kim and Moon hold hands?

I'm still shocked this is happening, part of me is just like "It's all a ruse, NK is going to do something nuts and invade!" but really we know s*** all about them as a people, certainly the poor conditions they lived in but not much else.
Hopefully things continue to improve and there won't be any sort of assassination bulls*** to ruin it.

Imagine how weird it'd be seeing NK as a holiday destination, one where you won't have to worry about being killed or abducted.
Maybe it will take a while for it to open up quite that much but they're sure to get a lot of tourism when they do, s***'s historical.

Already tired of seeing people say this is all to do with Trump, it's just so clearly not.
